Staining concrete is one of the most popular applications for transforming dull, gray, concrete slabs into a work of art. Often referred to as colored concrete, or acid stained concrete, homeowners, designers and builders are drawn to stained concrete because of the unique outcome that can be achieved by combining colors, and techniques on concrete floors.

Decorative Concrete contractors generally clean the concrete surface by pressure washing outdoor surfaces or floor scrubbing interior floors with a buffer and abravise pad. Once the surface is clean and the surrrounding walls are prepped the applicator will spray stain onto the floor. Most chemical stains are a mixture of water, hydrochloric acid, and acid-soluble metallic salts. They work by reacting chemically with the hydrated lime in the stain producing color in the concrete.

When acid stain is applied to a concrete surface it creates a mottled, uneven, translucent color. This coloring process gives the surface a look similar to weathered stone, slate or marble. Since each concrete slab has a slightly different chemical combination colors in concrete can vary. Acid Staining unlike paint is not a coating. Therefore, the color becomes a permanent part of the surface and will not chip, flake or peel. Since acid stain is translucent cracks and other imperfections in the slab give a weathered look of character.

The acid in the stain reacts with the lime in the concrete and the chemical reaction will change the color of the concrete. The concrete goes through what is re-ferred to as an ugly stage until the acid is neutralized with an alkaline agent like ammonia and water. Once the floor is clean and a sealer is applied acid stained floors take on the look of marble or terrazzo. Almost without exception the home owner will show concern during the ugly stage, but will smile with delight once the process is complete.

The price for acid stained floors is a fraction of natural stone. Acid stained concrete is generally less expensive than carpet or tile. The floors will last for the lifetime of the concrete and are absolutely gorgeous.

Back in the mid to late 1970s it was a big deal to actually own a king sized bed for most people in the U.S., as it was slightly more cost prohibitive at the time. A platform style bed will also not require a set of box springs, which will help, offset the cost of the more expensive bed frame. There are units which house a double layer of drawers placed on opposing sides of the bed, then a more low profile selection with lots of storage will the king size bed that has a hinged platform, and will allow you to lift the entire mattress much like the hood on an automobile to access trunk like storage beneath.
